Black Friday 2015: LG Electronics 55UF7600 55-Inch 4K Ultra HD Smart LED TV (2015 Model)
LG Electronics 55UF7600 55-Inch 4K Ultra HD Smart LED TV (2015 Model). ULTRA HD 4K is the newest industry standard for premium picture quality, The screen contains 8.3 million pixels, so the resolution is four times that of Full HD 1080p. Images look stunning, even on larger screens or when viewed up close.
This is an excellent TV at an excellent price. For those who say that you can't tell the difference between 4k and 1080p, I disagree. I compared this side by side to my 2014 LG 55" 1080p set, and the resolution and sharpness of the image is just no comparison. Can you see an individual pixel from a normal viewing distance on either set? Of course not. But you can see when things start to get fuzzy and pixelated with a large 1080p set, and that simply is not an issue with 4K.Picture quality is outstanding but you will want to tweak picture settings - I find that "Standard" and "Photo" modes are the best right out of the box, but worth customizing. I also turned off TruMotion, which seemed to be creating some lag when gaming, and is also a bit unsettling for movies and TV (which are usually filmed in 24 and 30 FPS, respectively, rather than 120 FPS TruMotion).4K playback from Netflix and Amazon Instant Video are superb, as is upscaling from a 1080p source. I was surprised how great Battlefield Hardline looked when upscaled to 4K. Overall, WebOS 2.0 is a joy to use, though I'm not a huge fan of the Smart Remote - just clunky to use and not really necessary.I had a bit of a scare when suddenly every 20th vertical row of pixels started bugging out in rainbow colors - see photos. I cycled the power and everything was fine, so I suspect that this was a software bug in the upscaling process (was playing Xbox One at 1080p at the time). Will update this review if it happens again.Build quality feels good and the TV looks great - very sleek, slim, and minimal bezels.
I bought this model to use first as a computer monitor and secondly as a TV. I have always preferred IPS panels for their inherently better color reproduction as well as better viewing angles. The trade off is the lower contrast ratio compared to a VA (Vertical Alignment) panel. If you are looking for a true dark room theater quality experience, this is not the TV for you. But in terms of vivid, vibrant colors and being able to view this TV off center without losing color or contrast, this is a very, very good TV. The 4K upscaling works well especially if you have a HD 1080p source. And the Magic Remote with the Web Os 2.0 Smart Platform works extremely well. As long as you can hook up by wi-fi or direct connection to the internet you can get all the streaming services like Amazon Prime, Netflix, Hulu and a host of others with this TV. The Web Os 2.0 works very well and includes an on screen user guide. You can even surf the web with the included web browser. This TV also works very well as a large 4K computer monitor. I have tested it myself and it does function 4K@60Hz with chroma 4:4:4. To do this you have to hook up to HDMI port 1 or 2. There is no included HDMI cable, but I used the Amazon Basics high speed cable which worked perfectly. Then press the Settings button on the remote > the three vertical dots circle > Picture > HDMI ULTRA deep color > turn ON. You have to restart the TV at this point. Next go to Device Connections > HDMI 1 or 2, whichever one you are connected to, > edit > then scroll down to PC and click it on. Now go into your computer graphics card control panel and set the resolution 3840x2160 and refresh rate at 60 Hz. You are good to go now. The main drawback as a computer monitor is that it has relatively high input lag.Read more ›
Extremely happy with the tv. Excellent picture quality. Be sure to select 1080i or above from your cable set-top box because this will affect the TV's picture quality.
